What it says, in simple English.
1 – Salutations to you, great Maya, seated on the throne of prosperity and worshipped by the gods, holding conch, discus and mace – O Mahalakshmi, I bow to you.
2 – Salutations to you who ride Garuda and struck terror into the demon Kolasura; remover of all sins – O Mahalakshmi, I bow to you.
3 – All-knowing giver of every boon, terror of all the wicked, remover of all sorrow – I bow to you.
4 – Giver of success and wisdom, of enjoyment and liberation, embodiment of mantra – I bow to you.
5 – Without beginning or end, primordial Shakti, great Goddess, born of yoga and revealed through yoga – I bow to you.
6 – Gross and subtle, most fierce, great power, vast-bellied, destroyer of great sins – I bow to you.
7 – Seated on the lotus, whose very form is the Supreme Brahman, supreme ruler and mother of the world – I bow to you.
8 – Clad in white, adorned with many ornaments, abiding in and mothering the world – I bow to you.
Phalashruti – Whoever reads this hymn with devotion attains every success. Read once a day it destroys great sins; twice a day it brings wealth and grain; three times a day it destroys powerful enemies, and Mahalakshmi remains ever pleased and gracious.
Chanted on Fridays, during Diwali and Navratri, and in the Kolhapur Mahalakshmi tradition.
