What the aarti says, in simple English.
Summary – King Ashvapati asked, and Narad told him that Satyavan was short-lived: why had Savitri chosen him? ‘Choose another husband, child,’ he said, but her mind was made up. Refrain: O merciful one – here are Satyavan and Savitri; I will worship with devotion – aarti to the king of trees, the banyan. On Jyeshtha trayodashi women worship the banyan; keeping a three-night vrat, Savitri won Satyavan back. She followed him to the world beyond; Dharmaraja (Yama) was moved, and said, ‘Come, faithful wife, take back your husband.’ She went to Yama and asked for her husband; after granting four boons, the kind one returned him. Women who hear your fame keep your vrat and reach your world. The three worlds praise you; flowers rained from heaven as you brought your husband home – the faithful wife saved him.
