What the aarti says, in simple English.
O mind, worship the compassionate Shri Ramchandra, who removes the terrible fear of worldly existence. His eyes, face, hands and feet are like fresh red lotuses. His beauty surpasses countless Kamadevas; he is lovely as a fresh dark rain-cloud, and his yellow garment shines like lightning – I bow to the pure husband of Janaki. Worship the friend of the humble, radiant as the sun, destroyer of the demon clans – the joy of the Raghu dynasty, moon of Kosala, son of Dasharatha. He wears a crown, earrings and a beautiful tilak, with ornaments on every limb; his arms reach his knees, he holds bow and arrow and defeated Khara and Dushana. So says Tulsidas: O delighter of the hearts of Shankar, Shesh and the sages, dwell in the lotus of my heart and destroy the band of wicked passions like desire.
Aartis are sung with small differences from region to region and family to family – if your family sings it differently, both are right.
