Told by Vishnu as the tortoise who held up Mount Mandara during the churning of the ocean. It is notable for teaching the unity of Vishnu and Shiva, and includes the Ishvara Gita.

A story from this Purana
Gods and demons churned the ocean of milk with Mount Mandara as the rod and Vasuki as the rope. When the mountain began to sink, Vishnu became a great tortoise and held it on his back. Out came poison (drunk by Shiva), Lakshmi, the wish-granting tree, and finally amrit.
