Marathi Pothi · श्री शिवलीलामृत
Shivlilamrut – ‘the nectar of Shiva's leelas’ – is the most loved Shiva pothi in Maharashtra. Shridhar Swami retold stories from the Brahmottar Khanda of the Skanda Purana in simple Marathi ovis, so that every household could read the glory of Shiva. Families read it through the month of Shravan, on Mondays and on Mahashivratri, and many devotees recite the eleventh adhyay daily.
A story from this granth
On Mahashivratri a hunter spent the night in a bel tree, and the leaves he dropped fell on a hidden Shivling. Because he fasted, kept awake and let the deer go, Shiva gave him liberation – the story Shivlilamrut tells to show that no devotion to Shiva is ever wasted.
A story from this granth
A cowherd boy saw a king's Pradosh worship and, going home, worshipped a stone as Shiva with whatever he had. Pleased by his pure heart, Shiva blessed him and his whole village – showing that love matters more than wealth in worship.
Traditionally one adhyay is read each day (or all fourteen in a Shravan parayan), after bathing, facing a Shivling or picture of Shiva, with bel leaves offered at the end.
