What the aarti says, in simple English.
Summary – Victory to Goddess Mangalagauri; I wave the aarti before you on a golden plate, with lamps of jewels, wicks of rubies and flames of diamonds. The auspicious Goddess appeared and was pleased with the short-lived prince, and the princess waited for her blessing of saubhagya. Women bring jasmine buds, sixteen kinds of flowers, sixteen blades of durva and sixteen kinds of leaves – jai, jui, abolya, shevanti, nagchapha, parijat, nandet and tagar – for her puja; they cook rice, moong dal and khichdi and serve their husbands with devotion. Drums sound, and bangles, armlets and ear-ornaments adorn the Mother. After bathing, she sits in silence in a silk blouse and a milk-white sari and begins the worship. The five-flamed aarti burns with camphor wicks on golden plates; incense, lamp and a feast of six flavours are offered. The last stanza tells how the three set out quickly for Kashi, the mother forgot to immerse the Mangalagaur, came back, and found the self-born Amba in a temple of gold with diamond pillars and a dome of pearls.
