What the aarti says, in simple English.
Victory to Mother Parvati, the eternal Goddess who is Brahman itself and the giver of auspicious fruit. You crush the enemy clans like lotuses and protect your servants; mother of the world and its very life, even Vishnu and Shiva sing your virtues. You ride a lion and wear earrings, while the wives of the gods sing your fame and dance to the rhythm. In Satya Yuga, beautiful and virtuous, you were called Sati; you were born again in the home of Himalaya and played with your friends. You tore apart Shumbha and Nishumbha, taking a thousand-armed form with the discus in hand. You are the Mother in the form of creation, rejoicing with Shiva; Nandi and Bhringi play the veena and the whole world is filled with joy. The gods bring you their prayers, clapping and singing with hearts full of colour. Whoever sings this aarti of the Mother, composed by Shri Pratap, remains ever happy and gains joy and prosperity.
Aartis are sung with small differences from region to region and family to family – if your family sings it differently, both are right.
