What the aarti says, in simple English.
Victory to Hari, Lord of the universe, who removes the troubles of his devotees in an instant. Whoever meditates on him is rewarded: the mind's sorrow ends, happiness and prosperity come home and the body's pain fades. You are my mother and father – whose refuge could I take but yours? You are the complete Supreme Soul, the knower of every heart, the Lord of all. Ocean of compassion and sustainer of the world, have mercy on this foolish, flawed seeker. You are one and beyond the senses, the life of all beings – how can I, with my limited understanding, reach you? Friend of the helpless, remover of sorrow, my protector – raise your hand, I lie at your door. Remove worldly cravings and sins, and increase my faith, devotion and service to the saints.
Aartis are sung with small differences from region to region and family to family – if your family sings it differently, both are right.
