What the aarti says, in simple English.
Victory to Shiva, the embodiment of Om, who is Brahma, Vishnu and Sadashiva, with Parvati as half his body. In his forms he has one, four and five faces, and rides the swan, Garuda and the bull. With two, four and ten arms he enchants the three worlds. He wears garlands of rudraksha, forest flowers and skulls, sandal and musk, and the crescent moon on his brow. Dressed in white, yellow and tiger skin, he is accompanied by sages, Garuda and ghosts alike. Holding kamandal, chakra and trident, he gives joy, removes sorrow and sustains the world. The ignorant see Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva as separate, but in the sacred syllable Om all three are one. Parvati is his other half and the Ganga flows from his locks; he lives on Kailash, eats bhang and dhatura and dwells in ash. In Kashi he reigns as Vishwanath with Nandi. Whoever sings this aarti of the Lord of the three gunas receives the fruit of their desires.
Aartis are sung with small differences from region to region and family to family – if your family sings it differently, both are right.
